Imagine being able to train your dog to come on command, every time you call. Even if your dog is distracted by a tennis ball, a cat, a piece of food... or another dog.
Do you own a good dog who just doesn't listen? Are you tired of yelling, "Cookie! Cookie! Cookie!" to get your dog's attention? Have the so-called "Purely Positive" and clicker training techniques failed to work on your stubborn, dominant dog?
Not to fear.
Master dog trainer Adam G. Katz, the editor of DogProblems.com, has developed a system of techniques that work on even the most stubborn, high drive and unfocused dogs. You'll learn a balanced approach to teaching your dog to come that is based on the natural way the mother dog (or alpha dog) relates to the subordinate dogs in the pack. It's a safe, fun and effective way to train your dog that's built on both love and respect. Your neighbors will be amazed at how well your dog comes on command, even around the most tempting distractions.

I read this some time ago and what really stuck with me is that the author seems to understand very little about actual canine psychology. Other than how to get a Pavlovian type of response in your dog, consistently. I highly recommend this book but don't read JUST this book, check out a few other authors in addition. His method works through sort of passive-aggressively convincing in your dog, the sense that you, the human, are omniscient and can control him at any distance, no matter what else he has in mind (30+ foot leads and faking the dog out, basically).Don't get me wrong, there is some VERY good and very helpful information to be found in this book. The lingering feeling though, several months after reading it, is that he doesn't *really*, fundamentally understand dogs all that well. He just couldn't seem to wrap his head around why his first dog was still out of control in certain ways. I could explain why, but I'll spare you the details. Read a book.
After you read THIS book (and I really do suggest you read it!), go pick up:
How to Speak Dog by Stanley Coren (this one is very important for learning how to read your dog's "language" and understand what he's communicating to you, accurately! Some people mistake play for aggression. Or aggression for an invitation to pet the dog, yikes!)
Cesar's Way by Cesar Milan (he wouldn't have a thriving business, after having been taken for a ride by a corrupt tv network and losing everything, if he wasn't good at what he does)
How to be the Leader of the Pack...And have Your Dog Love You For It by Patricia B. McConnell Ph.D. and
Be the Pack Leader by Cesar Milan
It's best to get a few different perspectives. :)
****And PLEASE, if your dog is aggressive, bites people, snarls and lunges like he wants to kill dogs/people/other animals you walk past, or that walk past your house, consult a PROFESSIONAL! ANY dog can and will bite if given the right reason (like accidentally stepping on his foot while he's fast asleep and scaring him silly). If he or she is showing outward signs of real aggression, you have a serious problem on your hands!

Teach Your Dog To Come Every Time You Call Him edition by Adam G Katz Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
Hates this book - deleted it right away. Adam Katz suggests using force to get your dog to come - I want my dog to come because he likes me - not because I force him. Don't waste your money
It was vague and impracticable
Great book
Every bit of information the author imparts is useful. Helps me understand my pet a little better and is an introduction to a wealth of other material offered through Adam Katz's website. Terrific resource!
This book has been extremely helpful in controlling my wild and crazy pooch. Focusing on timing consistency and motivation the book helps you tailor the training to your dog's personality. The information on the proper usage of training devices was very helpful, I wish I had known about the collar fit earlier, could have been very helpful. Full of tons of great information and tips this ¬book was a quick and easy read, but contained a lot of good knowledge. If you have a very stubborn dog that has not responded to other training methods, or if you are just getting started with your training, give this book a try, it took some time but my dog's behavior has already changed for the better.
He has a few good techniques that I will want to use but I am confused on all the tools
Our 7 month old dog is fairly well behaved but he once he saw a squirrel or a bird or something more exciting than my husband and I, he took off. And then when he was away from us in an area where he knew he shouldn't be it was like he knew he was in trouble already so he thought why not keep going until they actually catch me? This book had some great foundation information for teaching him the come command. Now, he does very well for the most part, occasional relapses especially around squirrels, but he is much more consistent with coming when called.
